MADRAS GOLDEN TRIANGLE

Review:

This is a short itinerary which discovers a few magnificent sites of South India beside relaxing on one of its golden beaches. First visit some of the highlight of Chennai, then we move to Mahabalipurm to admire the Shore Temple, as well as other monolithic monuments and relax on beach. In Madurai we explore the famous Meenakshi temple dedicated to Meenakshi Sundarama, is a large temple - town complex of walls, corridors, concentric streets, tanks shops and finally, the main shrine, with sculptured pillars, and the figures on the Gopurams. The temple has an interesting museum located in its 1000 - pillared hall. Continuing our exploration we drive to Tiruchirapalli in short refered to as Trichy. its major attraction is the unique Rock Fort temple.

Chennai - Mahabalipuram - Madurai - Trichy - Chennai 

DAY 01.   ARRIVE CHENNAI
Arrive Chennai meet and transfer to hotel.  Afternoon orientation tour of the city.  Chennai is capital of Tamil Nadu state and fourth largest of Indian cities after Bombay, Calcutta and Delhi

DAY 02.   CHENNAI � MAHABALIPURAM � CHENNAI                 Drive 117 Km 3 Hrs.
Morning depart for full day tour of Kanchipuram, erstwhile capital of Pallavas and Cholas, full of temples and tanks. After exploration of Kanchipuram drive to Mahabalipuram the 7th century port city of Pallavas with number of monuments and rock-cut monoliths displaying fine sculpture. Evening return to Chennai hotel. 

DAY 03.   CHENNAI � MADURAI                                         Fly
Morning city sightseeing of Chennai. Afternoon transfer to airport for Madurai flight. Arrive and transfer to hotel for two nights. 

DAY 04.   IN MADURAI 
Full day sightseeing. Madurai is the Tamil heartland and the acknowledged center of Dravidian culture. The old town clings around the 9 tall gopurams (monumental gates) of the 16th century Meenakshi Temple. We explore the Hall of 1000 Pillars, the Palace of King Tiramalai (a blend of Hindu and Saracen architectural styles), the Great Tank and the Gandhi Museum. Rising above the complex, above the festive Pandemonium of swirling crowds of pilgrims that never seem to cease, are 11 stupendous towers.  

DAY 05.   MADURAI � TRICHY                                          Drive 142 Km 3 Hrs.
Morning depart and drive to Trichy, en-route visit Tanjore, an old temple city with exuberant Hindu sculpture, the work of Chola architects (10th to 14th centuries). Arrive Trichy and check in at hotel. Afternoon half-day tour to the famous rock fort which looms about 300' over the banks of the Cauvery river. A Ganesh temple stands here, and there are superb views from the top of the fort looking down on the river island of Srirangam and the temple of Ranganatha Swami.

DAY 06.   TRICHY � CHENNAI                            Fly 
Morning at leisure for personal exploration. Afternoon transfer to airport and fly to Chennai, arrive and transfer to hotel.  

DAY 07.DEPARTURE
Transfer to airport for next destination
